I can’t believe how disappointed I am with my purchase of a Pangolin Performance last October.
The appearance of the laptop sucked, with no professional branding like the one in the video, plain black with a non-matching white keyboard.
The hard drive just failed and I just brought it last October. Six months later I lose all my unbacked up data.
I shouldn’t have to buy the top of the line system to get a decent product. I’m and undergraduate, and I just wish that I had got a linux dell.
Damn, yust for the US ;-(
The current Pangolin Performance has an nVidia GeForce G105M. Not sure how that rates, but whatever. They update regularly.
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.
Works great with Windows, though I don’t really care to use it very often.
It was because of this show that I purchased a laptop from System76. I opted for the Pangolin Performance instead of the Serval Professional, because of my needs. What I received was excellent service and a quality piece of hardware that worked flawlessly right out of the box. Thanks for the review, without which I would never would have known about System76.
well if its only a touch cheap then enjoy your shitty del
No it’s got a ATiRadeonHD. Not like it matters though. The only games I play are Open Arena and Gridwars. I can do both of those with a pussy-assed VIA.
yeah but does it have a 9800 gtx?
Great video — and great use of not huge microphones
This is a Clevo m860tu. You can order them from at least a dozen boutique suppliers, like AVADirect, Sager, or RockPC. Wiki “clevo”.
Of course, you won’t get System76′s highly regarded support or commitment to the open source community. Also, you might need to get into the bios to get linux installed, and you won’t have the System76 driver that they’ve crafted for it. And, you’ll probably pay more. And…
Have you tried installing XP on it? Ubuntu’s a great OS, but I’m still using Windows for gaming.
mmmm sheckshy. Thanks for the review man
It’s a nice laptop, but I’m still leaning more at a Dell Studio 15 with Ubuntu on it. It’s a touch cheaper too.
Wireless has been really solid. Even using it on an 802.11n network with WPA protection with no issues so far.
Gotta point something out in case you haven’t noticed it yet. The eSATA port is actually a combination eSATA/USB port, so the total number of USB ports is 4, not 3. Found that out on mine by accident. I love that this comes with 7200rpm HDD & DDR3 on both system & video RAM.
I love the machine, but had some trouble with the wireless card causing kernel panics. Have you had any trouble with yours?
My next laptop is going to have to come with ubuntu pre-installed.
Congratulations, LAS! Another great season.
You “re-introduced” me to desktop Linux a year and half ago, and I will never look back.
Damn, I wish we had them over here in Sweden too.
Whoa, that is one hell of an awesome laptop! I am going to look into getting one of those. And I could run Windows in a virtual machine easily with the amount of power that thing has.
5/5 great review guys!
gotta get me a new laptop at some stage
Right on! Most people do not think of the color grey as being high on the scale of beauty. How about a grey tan or maby a grey make over? But sparrows are grey (with some black perhaps) and not one of them falls to the ground with out God’s noticeing it.For Martha and all who read this comment; may all your rainbows start on earth and bend towards Heaven.
