Calling people who are out of the country can be quite expensive at times especially if you want to have a long talk. If you are an iPhone user, you can use these apps to call them over a Wifi or a 3G connection and all for free!

Skype is the universal answer for VoIP simply because it supports any device with an operating system. Data rates are only charged over your Wifi/3G connection (but it happens anyway). As long as other users have Skype you can do what you intend to do!
Call for as low as 3 cents per video. Send text messages or you can also video chat. Video chat is gaining popularity in the new iPhone 4 and its completely free.
♦ Viber
This is the latest entry into the market of calls over networks. Viber is right now only available for the iPhone and you can make calls or send text to other Viber users.
Unlike Skype, you don’t need to register for a new account as Viber takes in your phone number as the username. You don’t have to remember much as it also detects other people in your contact list who use Viber. Pretty automatic compared to Skype.
