I came across this interesting pattern while trying to visualize some of the Twitter streaming data. The following charts plot the ‘following’ counts vs the ‘followers’ counts (for ~200K user accounts). The data represents one hours worth of data obtained via the streaming API. User accounts falling around the line y ~= 0 tend to generally be celebrities (musicians, sportsmen etc), companies, news and info bots (like the WSJ, CNN etc). The general population usually falls around the line y = x (the ‘I follow you, You follow me’ kind). But thats not whats interesting here (we all knew that). Looking at the zoomed in plots (figure 2 and figure 5), we see a distinct square formed by at (0,0) (2000,2000). This is also observed in another days data (figure 5) so its not just an anomaly. The plateau formed at y=2000 is a bit perplexing. I can’t seem to get my head around that. Figure (3) tries to look at the user accounts with ~2000 ‘following’ — a large number of these users turn out to be spam bots. I suspect most spam account (bots) are concentrated around this region. Its as if the spam bots tend to follow around 2000 users at max so as to not alert the spam controls by mass following users.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

On Monday, Apple shipped its long-awaited iOS 4.2.1 update for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, which was the first major upgrade for the iPad since its launch earlier this year. Finally, iPad users have access to features like multitasking, app folders, threaded messaging and a Unified Inbox, thanks to this update. It also delivered new features called AirPrint and AirPlay to all iOS devices, the former for printing from mobile devices and the latter for streaming between mobile devices and Apple TV or other AirPlay-enabled hardware.
But for iPhone jailbreakers, there’s only one question that comes to mind when a new upgrade is released: can you jailbreak it?
The answer this time is yes you can – and there’s no waiting to do so! However, iPhone users may want to hold off on this one. Here’s why:
Although the 4.2.1 software can be jailbroken using the iPhone Dev Team’s redsn0w hacking tool, this time around it’s what’s known as a “tethered” jailbreak, at least on newer Apple devices. What that means is that if your phone ever loses power or you need to reboot your device, you have to connect it to your computer (i.e. “tether” it) in order to keep the device jailbroken. Failure to do so will result in the device resetting to an un-jailbroken state. If, for some reason, you aren’t able to reboot the device while tethered, you can still recover your jailbreak by connecting it again to your computer and then booting it using redsn0w.
Simply put, it’s a huge pain.
So unless you really need 4.2.1′s AirPlay or AirPrint features, we would suggest iPhone users hold off on this one, as an untethered (read: “normal”) jailbreak is in the works now. Being “tethered” is less of a hassle on iPod Touch and iPad, however, as maintaining a jailbreak isn’t as mission-critical on these devices. Nor are these devices as likely to be completely drained of laptop battery juice like the iPhone is, especially if you make a lot of phone calls. In other words, it’s up to you on this one – jailbreak if you must or wait to upgrade.
The good news is that you can still upgrade your iPad to iOS 4.2.1 to take advantage of all the new features but not have to install the same software on your iPhone. iTunes will prompt you when you connect an iPad to your computer to upgrade and you can proceed normally. When you connect your iPhone, you can just say “no” to the same prompt with no harm done. You can continue using your iPhone as usual, syncing files, etc., while still maintaining the jailbreak you already have.
However, if you’re determined to proceed with the jailbreak, despite our warnings, here’s how you do it:
Download the redsn0w software: Mac or Windows version (more mirrors are listed on the Dev Team blog)
Upgrade to iTunes 10.1 if you haven’t already.
Install the iOS 4.2.1 firmware via iTunes as usual.
Run the redsn0w software executable.
Redsn0w will ask you to select your IPSW file for your current firmware. Point it to one of the following, depending on your OS: Mac OS X: /~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates (or iPhone/iPod Software Updates, as the case may be)
Windows 7 or Vista: C:\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates (or iPhone/iPod Software Updates)
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates (or iPhone/iPod Software Updates)
Redsn0w should now say that the IPSW file was successfully identified. On the following screen, check “Install Cydia” then click “Next.”
With the iOS device powered off and plugged into the computer, click “Next” again.
Redsn0w will now provide instructions on how to put your device into DFU mode. This is a combination of key presses, that are as follows: Hold the Power button for 1 second, then without releasing it, hold the Home button for 10 seconds. Finally, release Power but keep holding Home for 15 seconds.
One in DFU mode, the jailbreak will proceed automatically.
Compatibility notes: This jailbreak works on all devices. On iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3 and 4, iPad and iPod Touch 2 (MC model) it will be tethered. On iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (older bootroom), and iPod Touch 2 (older model) it’s not tethered. iPhone unlockers should NOT jailbreak!
As always, please proceed with jailbreaking at your own risk. Although relatively easy, it is a form of hacking and things can go wrong, break, crash or just not work at all. Back up your iOS device before jailbreaking in case you need to restore and make sure that critical data (contacts, notes, etc.) is also safely stored elsewhere than on your laptop.

The Canon imageRUNNER Advance Platform
The Canon imageRUNNER Advance platform has already proved exceptionally popular with consumers and has even been garnered with major awards from many of the industry’s leading authorities. Even before its launch, the Canon imageRUNNER Advance 8000 Canon mono copiers were awarded at the On Demand expo in the US for providing impressive, fast black and white output in the corporate/light professional category. Then, the European Digital Press Association (EDP) honoured the high-end flagship imageRUNNER Advance 9060 Pro multifunction printer/Canon colour copier with a coveted EDP Award. The imageRUNNER Advance C2030/C2020 Canon colour copiers are really the final piece of the puzzle for the imageRUNNER Advance platform. The models effectively extend the same Canon imageRUNNER Advance platform benefits and next generation document imaging technologies for end-users ranging from low-volume offices seeking increased efficiency to high-volume light production environments seeking optimal performance but with the cost efficiencies.
The imageRUNNER Advance C2030/C2020 Photocopiers Essentials Software Package
The new Canon printer-copier-fax models support a range of software solutions including the imageRUNNER Advance Essentials package which harnesses the power of Canon’s innovative Advanced image CHP architecture to deliver truly optimum results. ImageRUNNER Advance Essentials is an integrated software suite which has been designed to enhance the end-user’s experience and interactions with Canon imageRUNNER copiers. The suite includes imageRUNNER Advance desktop, imageRUNNER Advance Tracker and Workflow Composer with Connectors which give users the control they require, at their finger tips. Users can harness the power of imageRUNNER Advance functionality directly on their desktops for one-touch workflow key creation, document publishing and management in addition to basic document tracking and accounting.
The imageRUNNER Advance C2030 and C2020 fax-copier-printer-MFP models also support Canon’s MEAP technology, allowing for integration with customized business processes and third-party software applications.
Canon imageRUNNER Advance C2030 and C2020 Photocopiers – Truly Advanced Technology
As with all devices on the Canon imageRUNNER Advance platform, the C2030 and C2020 Canon colour copiers/MFP’s come with much larger displays – on these two it’s an easy to use 5.7″ full-colour TFT user-interface which allows the user to personalise a main menu as well as a ‘quick’ menu for common functions and more streamlined job control. For their size, the new Canon imageRUNNER Advance C2020 and C2020 Canon fax-copiers provide impressive print speeds – 20 ppm and 30 ppm respectively. Both Canon printer copiers feature a maximum paper capacity of 2000 sheets and handle media sizes of up to 12 by 18 inch. A duplexing automatic document feeder (DADF) will deliver 44 images per minute in both colour and black and white, while internal finishing capability allows for a greater range of output options. The models also offer UFR II printing to efficiently distribute the print processing burden of all components of printer data between the PC and the photocopier as well as Canon’s Universal Send document distribution and high compression PDF/XPS feature.
The new C2020 and C2030 Canon copier models are able to utilize Canon imageRUNNER Advance technology and architecture to provide true 1200 by 1200 dots per inch (dpi) print resolution for exceptional output image quality, yielding smooth, vivid and well-defined images. The oil-free “pQ” toner produces sharp text with well-defined corners and rich and clear images which display subtle gradient transitions and a high-quality finish.
The Canon imageRUNNER Advance C2020/C2030 – Canon imageRUNNER Copiers’ Continuing Commitment to the Environment
As with all the devices in the Canon imageRUNNER Advance platform, the C2030 and C2020 Canon photocopiers are manufactured with components fabricated from 100 percent recycled plastics from old devices, as well as bio-plastic, plant derived organic matter which has been specially engineered to meet the necessary heat tolerances for use in Canon copiers. Further, Canon has taken steps to ensure its carbon emissions are controlled and minimised at each step in the product’s journey, from conception, manufacture and materials to logistics and transportation.
